About My Project
Reducing Waste in KCS / 2020 - 2021
My project is based on my belief that everyone should recycle. I realized that I could both raise money for the school and save some recyclables from the trash can. For my project I worked with student council to create a recycling drive for the school. I had a flier sent out to all the parents, but I realized that I would need more advertising.
I did the recycling drive from the 16th to the 26th of February. During this I told parents that dropped off their children that they could support student council by donating bags of HI5 recyclables. Many parents were on board for this. For the two weeks people brought bags everyday. In the end I made a total of $170 for the school to have future school events. |
There is no such thing as "away". |
21st Century Skills
Now to answer the question that everyone is asking. What 21st century skills did I use?
Global Awareness: My project was based on helping the environment and researching the impacts of recycling. Through this I took what I learned about recycling and applied it to implementing a recycling program at our school. Communication: During my journey to complete my project I communicated with many people many different times. This practice communicating strengthened my communication skills. Critical Thinking: Covid really made recycling at the school more difficult but that didn't stop me from setting up a recycling drive to get as much recycling as I could in 2 weeks. Self Direction: I had to be self directed to complete my project. It was difficult for me to maintain motivation, but I finished my project and managed to raise money for the school. |
How Going Green Can Save Schools Money
For my project I made an argumentative essay stating the benefits of schools staring a recycling program and how it can save them money.
